Death Building Construction Worker Accident

Death of Construction Worker Leaves Family in Shock

In an unfortunate event, a construction worker, Juan Ruiz lost his life when he failed to make it out of a building collapse. The 69 year old’s body was identified by his family on Saturday. ‘The family of the man is devastated and is looking for answers right away,’ the family’s attorney, Jeffrey Shapiro was quoted saying. Juan Ruiz died when a warehouse owned by Columbia University was demolished.

The tragic event left the family in a state of shock. However the family has expressed appreciation for the sympathies that they have gotten from folks around the country. ‘The family of  Juan Ruiz want justice and while they know that they cannot bring back Juan, they want to make sure that no one else loses their life in an unfortunate even like that in the future,’ the family’s attorney further added.

There is no news as to whether or not the family will go for a compensation claim against the university but Shapiro surely hinted that that might be the case. The fact that the university violated 59 codes while the building was in construction and that the building’s construction was put to a halt as many as 14 times since the project started only makes Ruiz’s family’s chances getting a work accident compensation better.

Ruiz was not the only one who had to bear the brunt of poor project management. There were two more workers who were seriously injured at the site – King Range and Sakim Kirbey, 60 and 30 years of age respectively. The two are admitted to the St. Luke’s hospital and their condition has been reported to be stable.

Kirby’s father said that it was too early to ponder on whether to personal injury solicitor for the case and that his major concern was his son’s wellbeing. Once his son gets better, he would think about the legal proceedings. He told the reporters that he would cross that bridge when he gets there. ‘Seeking compensation claim is a long process and takes up a lot of your time. Right now we’re not thinking of that and are only focusing on Sakim’s health,’ Kirby’s father elaborated.

The amount that Ruiz’s family claims compensation for is yet to be decided. In accident at work claim cases like these, the amount can go up to a good amount. Neither Ruiz’s family nor the attorney has disclosed the amount so far. No win no fee solicitors like Jeffrey Shapiro around the country have always handled cases like these and in this case, the grounds for a claim are solid. If Sakim’s family does decide to make a work accident claim, they have pretty good chances of getting the complete claim.
